Interstate trends are showing more demand for public transport, and services at capacity. The ACT should seriously look at increasing its vehicle order when considering stage two light rail capacity requirements.

The summary report for Woden to Civic light rail stage two has been released following extensive community consultation. The report shows overwhelming public support for Woden light rail to travel through City West and the major employment hubs of Parkes and Barton.

Although the survey size is small, it is focussed on a specific demographic that shapes how the corridor will grow. Their views are very useful for the current project, and in planning communications strategies for future stages of the light rail network In Canberra.
Since the decision to implement light rail was taken, a bold and flexible approach to bus policy has also occurred. This is a positive sign for public transport. Using the Red Rapid buses, and the million kilometres a year they were driving on that service, across the network will effectively add a fleet of high quality, disability compliant buses at little extra cost in equipment or staffing. How do we best realise this opportunity?
