The Legislative Assembly’s inquiry into the procurement and delivery of MyWay+ has now published the 108 submissions it received. It’s very pleasing to see so many people make the effort to let the Committee know what they thought of the rollout.
We’ll be going through the other subs to see if there’s anything of interest. In the meantime, here’s a quick summary of PTCBR’s take on it:
- What passengers wanted from MyWay+ was to be able to pay with their bank cards, improvements to the passenger information system, and overall better functionality. Unfortunately, MyWay+ tried to introduce a lot of other new features which got in the way.
- MyWay+ doesn’t yet deliver what was promised. We spent a lot of time explaining how the fare payment system, the passenger information system and the app are not up to code. Have a read of our summary at Attachment A below to see how we break it down against the MyWay+ contract with NEC.
- Transport Canberra could have done a lot better in public engagement and communications. We tried telling them the system wasn’t ready yet, but Transport Canberra decided to go live despite these warnings.
But if you’re interested in learning about how things went wrong, it’s definitely worth reading the whole thing.

Note: An earlier version of PTCBR's submission claimed that no MyWay+ system trial participant had been provided with early access to the MyWay+ Customer Portal. We have since been contacted by a system trial participant who was provided with access to the Portal on 22 October 2024. In response to this correction, the Committee has been notified of the factual error and the claim has been removed.
