HomeNewsBlogMEDIA RELEASE – Public Transport Association of Canberra welcomes improved Saturday bus services

The ACT Government has today announced a new enterprise agreement for Transport Canberra bus drivers that will enable increased Saturday bus services.

The Public Transport Association of Canberra (PTCBR) says this is a positive and welcome development in the ongoing issue of poor public transport provision across Canberra on weekends.

PTCBR Chair Ryan Hemsley said one of the most common complaints PTCBR receives is that bus services on Saturdays and Sundays are infrequent and inconvenient, and that the services that do run can be packed and uncomfortable.

“Canberra is a modern city with people living full and busy lives throughout the entire week. We need a bus network that reflects that,” said Mr Hemsley.

“We know that demand for weekend public transport is there – it shouldn’t be this hard to meet it.”

PTCBR welcomed the government’s commitment to increased Saturday services, and expects this will be extended to Sundays in due course.

Ryan Hemsley is the Chair of the Public Transport Association of Canberra, the Canberra region’s peak public transport lobby group.
