HomeNewsBlogMEDIA RELEASE: Public transport advocates call for urgent fixes and review of MyWay+ procurement

Following today’s trouble-plagued launch of MyWay+, the Public Transport Association of Canberra (PTCBR) has called on the ACT Government to act quickly to fix core issues with the system and establish basic functionality.

PTCBR Chair Ryan Hemsley said Canberra’s bus and light rail passengers had been let down by the new ticketing system.

“Today’s launch of MyWay+ has not been a success. We’ve seen widespread issues including card readers not working, difficulties with the mobile phone app, and no real-time journey information available,” said Mr Hemsley.

“The community has been looking forward to using a new and modern ticketing system for many years, and we’re disappointed that Transport Canberra couldn’t sort out the basics before launch.”

Mr Hemsley said it was clear that the ACT Government had rolled out a product that was not ready for widespread public use.

“Passengers have every right to be frustrated. The issues we’ve seen today should have been picked up and resolved during design, development and testing,” said Mr Hemsley.

“We need a review into the MyWay+ procurement process to identify what went wrong, and what changes need to be made at Transport Canberra to avoid a bungle of this scale in the future.”

Ryan Hemsley is the Chair of the Public Transport Association of Canberra, a public transport users group committed to improving public transport in the ACT and surrounding region.
