Doing the rounds recently is this excellent map of regional coach services in South Australia from transpo enthusiast Tom McGuire (@AussieWirraway on Twitter). He rightly identified that there’s no single map helping passengers navigate the disjointed services in the state, and spent months trawling through timetables to put it together.
This got the PTCBR Committee thinking there’s similarly no map for all the services which connect Canberra to its surrounding region. The Transport Canberra map only has services in its network, and doesn’t mention any of the cross-border services, connecting to local communities (eg Queanbeyan, Murrumbateman, Yass) or further afield.
Which is why we need your help! We know there’s a proud community of map designers here, and we’ve seen some excellent fantasy maps on Reddit. So we’re holding a competition for the best map of coach services connecting to Canberra.
Rules are:
- Draw your best map of regional and long distance services connecting to Canberra and email it to .
- The map must be based on current services. This is not a fantasy map.
- What services you include depend on the research you do and your discretion. Rail, coach, local bus, it’s up to you.
- Entries close Monday 10 March 2025 (Canberra Day)
- We’d like your permission to publish entries on our website and social media, but you remain the owner of your work.
- PTCBR Committee will judge the winner. Winner gets a free PTCBR membership for the rest of the financial year.
To get you started, Canberra is served by a few different providers, including:
