Your invitation to participate in the 2023-24 Budget Consultation process
We are seeking your views and suggestions as to how the Government should prioritise and efficiently allocate the Territory’s resources in developing the 2023‑24 Budget.
Overview
The 2022-23 Budget was focussed on the investments needed to deliver services for all Canberrans both now and into the future.
Our focus is on building our economic, social, and community recovery, and to support the wellbeing of Canberrans.
We have balanced the need to continue to improve our fiscal position with the need to invest in services for a growing Canberra and the path back to budget balance will continue to be a focus for the Government over the medium term.
We continue to build on our response to the impacts of the pandemic and pave the way for a stronger, more vibrant and liveable Canberra.
As we develop the 2023-24 Budget, the ACT Government will continue working with the community to make sure Canberra returns even stronger.
The Budget consultation process provides an important opportunity for the community to be involved in the budget process. Working together, we can ensure that limited resources are put to their most efficient use.

Survey and submissions
You are able to provide your or your organisations input via two main avenues.
You are welcome to participate in the 2023-24 Budget Consultation survey which may be found here. The survey will close for input on 28 April 2023.
A form has been made available for written budget submissions if you wish to provide more detailed input. If you encounter any difficulties in using this form, your submission may still be emailed through to .
If you provide a submission via email, please indicate whether your content can be made public, or is to be treated in a confidential manner.
The written budget submission process remains open indefinitely and serves to inform the development of future budgets. We encourage budget submissions to focus on the longer‑term expenditure and revenue priorities for the Government and how the Government can best support the wellbeing of the Canberra community.
Timeframes
Please bear in mind that the 2023-24 Budget will have several months’ lead-time in terms of its preparation, and the ACT Government will require sufficient time to adequately review and consider all submissions in accordance with the 2023-24 Budget delivery schedule.
Submissions that are received close to the 27 June 2023 Budget delivery date will have a limited timeframe in which to be considered, and may be left to future budget updates in terms of responding to matters raised.
While we do not provide a fixed deadline for receiving your input, submissions that are provided early in 2023 will stand the best chance of being considered for inclusion in the 2023‑24 Budget.
Roundtable discussions
The Chief Minister, Treasury and Economic Development Directorate will facilitate a series of roundtable discussions to engage with local peak‑body organisations similar to those held prior to recent annual budgets. Peak-body organisations will be contacted with additional details regarding these discussions.
